Spiegel: Biden May Withdraw From US Presidential Election

A possible Democratic candidate has been named.

This summer Joe Biden may refuse to participate in the presidential election and propose the candidacy of Michelle Obama, the wife of former US President Barack Obama.

This is reported by the German edition of Der Spiegel.

The Democratic Party of the United States considers the possibility that Biden may announce his decision at the party convention in Chicago in August 2024.

According to the publication, Michelle Obama is already included in the list of potential candidates on which opinion polls are being conducted.

"The idea of a female president inspires many Americans," Der Spiegel notes.

As journalists point out, one of the reasons for this possible decision is Biden's age: two-thirds of Americans consider him too old to run the country for another four years.

In addition, despite the advanced age of Donald Trump, who is also seeking the presidency, many Americans express reluctance to see him win the next election. Against the backdrop of the numerous legal cases that are ongoing against Trump, this could affect voter preferences.
